partnered with a unique workforce initiative is the key to a successful program. entrepreneurship, music, arts, and fitness can change the lives of children, students and youths, by providing a solid foundation for at-risk children and youth to develop their creative talents, strengthen their cognitive abilities, and improve their educational experience. What makes our program distinguish itself from other programs reaching at-risk and high-risk youth, is the combined effort of separate entities creating an exciting and unique umbrella program.
Minor & Associates, Inc. d/b/a P.R.Y.D.E. is a 501c3 non-profit organization understands that more and more public schools desperately lack enrichment programs that provide students with outlets to express themselves creatively. There are very few organized music and arts programs available, especially to children from under privileged families. Without enrichment programs to keep children motivated, many choose to disengage or dropout. Youths that participate in music and arts programs are seven times more likely to graduate from high school.
Our PRYDE Mentoring Academy program is based on the belief that education and mentoring programs backed up with a strong workforce initiative, entrepreneurship, music, arts, and fitness can change the lives of children, students and youths, by providing a solid foundation for at-risk children and youth to develop their creative talents, strengthen their cognitive abilities, and improve their educational experience. What makes our program distinguish itself from other programs reaching at-risk and high-risk youth, is the combined effort of separate entities creating an exciting and unique umbrella program.
The PRYDE Mentoring Academy program, like other programs are realistic in our goals, we understand that we cannot save all at-risk youth; we can only save the ones that are drawn to our programs because what we are offering resonates within their hearts, just as other unique programs have at-risk youth drawn to them because of what they are offering. We believe that combined we can dramatically accomplish more together than what we can do alone.
I was raised in the sixties when there was so much social, civil, economical and racial unrest that parents were in constant fear that their children would fall victim to the turmoil that surrounded them. With virtually no support organizations available at that time, parents and neighborhoods bonded trying to raise and protect their youth, like the “Big Brother program” and “Neighborhood Watch programs”. Back then, the elders had a saying, “It takes a village to raise a child”.
In 2017, with the current state of our single parent homes, dis-functional homes, neighborhoods, and cities as they are, the youth of today are in a constant battle just to survive. Though the majority of homes and families are doing their best to raise their children to be personally, religiously and socially conscience, the percentage of at-risk youth that are falling between the cracks, is climbing at an alarming rate. Unfortunately because the streets are raising to many youth, the saying of this generation has become “It will take a village to SAVE a child”.
The PRYDE and its partners are willing to be that village, because we understand that when one village rises and unite a people to preserve a generation, other villages tend to follow. Our mission, partnering like-minded organizations and people to create a unique combined program that offers education, entrepreneurial, mentoring in conjunction with music, performing arts, culinary arts, education and Career Goals with varied curriculum's under one umbrella, “P.R.Y.D.E.”. Though this is our Mission Statement, it is not our Mission, it is our Responsibility.
Welcome to PRYDE Mentoring Academy program
The P.R.Y.D.E. Environmental Training & Workforce Program’s primary focus is on environmental health and safety while giving a worthwhile purpose to those that have already been identified as at-risk or adult re-entry candidates, an opportunity to work with a caring mentors and instructors to improve their ability to develop a positive attitude towards their future. The primary goal of P.R.Y.D.E. is to empower the participants to realize their potential and hopefully break the habits and influences that are leading them down the road to trouble in school and in the streets.
P.R.Y.D.E. (Partners Reaching Youths thru Developmental Education) is in direct response to the growing number of young people that are either falling through the cracks at school or are already entangled with the juvenile court system. The goal of the program is to identify youth who are going to have a turbulent transition to adulthood and offer a positive support system and life options to avoid the pitfalls that can derail their lives. The focus is slightly different at each level but the goal remains the same; empower the young person to make positive changes in his/her life.
The PRYDE Mentoring Academy program will focus primarily on middle school and high school youth. It is projected that within three years, 50% of the system's students will be in middle school. This age group is particularly problematic and a perfect time for mentoring to be effective.
PRYDE Mentoring Academy program will place youth instructors and mentors for Curriculum year. During that time the youth will participate in weekly planned activities by either classroom settings or one on one session to strengthen the relationship between the two and improve our participant's confidence and hopefulness. Mentors will receive continuous training throughout the year and will participate in monthly meetings to report their progress.
PRYDE supplemental programs are set to support participants in the Workforce program and At-Risk youth with services of Computers, Music, Performing Arts, Theatre, Chess Life Skills, Urban Gardening, and Culinary.
